Temple Of Buddhangala




Buduruwagala is an ancient Buddhist temple in Sri lanka.that dates back to the 10th century. Buddhangala is located about 5km from the Wellawaya on the Thanamalwila road.the name Buddhangala means "The rock with the statue of Buddha".this temple is unique because of its seven rock carved out sculptures belonging to mahayana buddhist tradition.This is the tallest Buddha statue in country.


the main Buddha statue at the middle is considered as statue of "Deepankara Buddha".this statue is 51 feet high.

In the right side,we can see three caved statues.those believed to belongs to Manju sri Boddhisathwa, Maitreya Nodhisattwa and Vajirapani Bodhisathwa.

The left side statue represents Sudhana Kumara, Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva and Tara.
