The Colosseum

Colosseum is located in Rome, Italy.it was the largest Amphitheatre ever built in Rome.made of Travertine limestone. tThe Colosseum was originally named the Flavian Amphitheatre.

Construction of the Colosseum began under the rule of the Emperor Vespasian in around 70-72 AD. It was officially completed and opened by Tutus in 80 AD. It had an area of six acres. It was four floors and had thirty-six trap doors for special effects. It considered three layers of arches and underground tunnels leading to other building and ports of the arena. It was 287 feet long and 180 feet wide. It could hold around 50 000 people.

The common uses of the Colosseum-
Gladiator fights
Re-enactments
Dramas/plays
Animal-to-animal fights.
some times even public executions.

The Colosseum displays the worth, might and power of Rome.it shows the style and building techniques also.

Temple Of Buddhangala

Buduruwagala is an ancient Buddhist temple in Sri lanka.that dates back to the 10th century. Buddhangala is located about 5km from the Wellawaya on the Thanamalwila road.the name Buddhangala means "The rock with the statue of Buddha".this temple is unique because of its seven rock carved out sculptures belonging to mahayana buddhist tradition.This is the tallest Buddha statue in country. the main Buddha statue at the middle is considered as statue of "Deepankara Buddha".this statue is 51 feet high. In the right side,we can see three caved statues.those believed to belongs to Manju sri Boddhisathwa, Maitreya Nodhisattwa and Vajirapani Bodhisathwa. The left side statue represents Sudhana Kumara, Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva and Tara.
